My Christmas Gift For You

A New Way To See Yourself In The World - Part 1

8Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers and elders of our people, 9are we being questioned today because we’ve done a good deed for a crippled man? Do you want to know how he was healed? 10Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the man you crucified but whom God raised from the dead. 11For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says, ‘The stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.’ 12There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”
Acts 4:8-12 (NLT)

A Miracle: An extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs.

1. JESUS INVITES ALL OF US TO LIVE IN EVERYDAY MIRACLE TERRITORY
(God incidence – not coincidence)

11Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do. 12“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. 13You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father.
John 14:11-13 (NLT)

Everyone listened quietly as Barnabas and Paul told about the miraculous signs and wonders God had done through them among the Gentiles.
Acts 15:12 (NLT)

2. TO BE GOD’S MIRACLE “DELIVERY AGENT” YOU MUST BECOME A WILLING SERVANT.

For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.
2 Chronicles 16:9a (NKJV)

3 PARTNERING WITH GOD TO DELIVER MIRACLES AND KNOWING ABOUT GOD IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE

18Jesus came to them and said: I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth! 19Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit…
Matthew 28:18-19 (CEV)

4While he was still with them, he said: Don't leave Jerusalem yet. Wait here for the Father to give you the Holy Spirit, just as I told you he has promised to do.
Acts 1:4 (CEV)

3I came to you in weakness—timid and trembling. 4And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. 5I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God.
1 Corinthians 2:3-5 (NLT)

4. GO BEYOND GOOD WORKS GOD’S SUPERNATURAL POWER AND MIRACLES

19I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power 20that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.
Ephesians 1:19-20 (NLT)

31So, brethren, we [who are born again] are not children of a slave woman [the natural], but of the free [the supernatural].
Galatians 4:31 (Amplified Bible)

4Little children, you are of God [you belong to Him] and have [already] defeated and overcome them [the agents of the antichrist], because He Who lives in you is greater (mightier) than he who is in the world.
1 John 4:4 (Amplified Bible)

JESUS LOVES YOU
8Then I heard the Lord asking, “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?” I said, “Here I am. Send me.” Isaiah 6:8 (NLT)

IT’S YOUR BIRTHDAY CHECK UP 2009 CHECK UP

So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. 16 Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. 17 Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Ephesians 5:15-17 (NLT)

1. WE SHOULD REMEMBER OUR BIRTH

13You are the one who put me together inside my mother's body, 14and I praise you because of the wonderful way you created me. Everything you do is marvelous! Of this I have no doubt.
Psalm 139:13-14 (CEV)

“I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5 (NLT)

2. WE SHOULD REMEMBER OUR RE-BIRTH

On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me!
38 Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’” 39 (When he said “living water,” he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him).
John 7:37-39 (NLT)

You know the saying, ‘Four months between planting and harvest.’ But I say, wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest. 36 The harvesters are paid good wages, and the fruit they harvest is people brought to eternal life. What joy awaits both the planter and the harvester alike! 37 You know the saying, ‘One plants and another harvests.’ And it’s true.
John 4:35-37 (NLT)

3. WE SHOULD REMEMBER WHAT GOD HAS DONE IN OUR LIVES

We will use these stones to build a memorial. In the future your children will ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ 7 Then you can tell them, ‘They remind us that the Jordan River stopped flowing when the Ark of the LORD’s Covenant went across.’ These stones will stand as a memorial among the people of Israel forever.” Joshua 4:6-7(NLT)

Search for the LORD and for his strength;
continually seek him. 5 Remember the wonders he has performed, his miracles, and the rulings he has given, you children of his servant Abraham, you descendants of Jacob, his chosen ones. Psalm 105:4-6 (NLT)

4. WE SHOULD REMEMBER THAT GOD IS STILL AT WORK IN OUR LIVES

So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do.
2 Thessalonians 1:11 (NLT)

Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.
2 Corinthians 7:1 (NLT)

JESUS LOVES YOU

But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him

BEWARE OF EMOTIONAL UNFORGIVNESS 2009 CHECK UP– Part 2

27But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 35But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.
Luke 6:27-28, 35 (NIV)

1. SHOW YOUR LOVE THROUGH ACTION
(Do something good for them)

20-21Our Scriptures tell us that if you see your enemy hungry, go buy that person lunch, or if he's thirsty, get him a drink. Your generosity will surprise him with goodness. Don't let evil get the best of you; get the best of evil by doing good. (NLT) Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.
Romans 12:21 (TM)

2. FOLLOW JESUS WAY AND RECEIVE DOUBLE BLESSINGS EVERYTIME

Then Jesus said to all the people:
If any of you want to be my followers, you must forget about yourself. You must take up your cross each day and follow me.
Luke 9:23 (CEV)

35 “Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked.
Luke 6:35 (NLT)

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
1 Peter 4:8 (NIV)

3. TRUST JESUS INSTRUCTIONS, NOT YOUR EMOTIONS

Your emotions are out of control, making you look fierce;
Job 15:12 (CEV)

During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Hebrews 5:7 (NIV)

A sound mind makes for a robust body,
but runaway emotions corrode the bones.
Proverbs 14:30 (TM)

JESUS LOVES YOU!
Jesus said: If you follow your selfish desires, you will harvest destruction, but if you follow the Spirit, you will harvest eternal life. Galatians 6:8 (CEV)

BEWARE OF SPIRITUAL SWINE FLU 2009 CHECK UP– Part 1

Instead, they grumbled in their tents and refused to obey the LORD. Psalm 106:25 (NLT)

Friends, don't complain about each other. A far greater complaint could be lodged against you, you know. The Judge is standing just around the corner. James 5:9 (TM)

1. A COMPLAINING SPIRIT SHOWS YOU ARE UNGRATEFUL FOR GOD’S BLESSINGS

And don’t grumble as some of them did, and then were destroyed by the angel of death. 11 These things happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us who live at the end of the age.
12 If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall.
13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.
1 Corinthians 10:10-13 (NLT)

31 The Israelites called the food manna. It was white like coriander seed, and it tasted like honey wafers.
Exodus 16:31 (NLT)

2. THE ANTIDOTE FOR COMPLAINING IS THANKFULNESS, BECAUSE IT GIVES YOU A POSITIVE ATTITUDE ANCHORED IN JESUS

Jesus told them: Stop grumbling! John 6:42 (CEV)

Do everything without complaining and arguing, 15 so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. Philippians 2:14-15 (NLT)

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
1 Timothy 5:18 (NLT)

I am disgusted with my life.
Let me complain freely.
My bitter soul must complain. Job 10:1 (NLT)

Do everything without complaining and arguing, 15 so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. Philippians 2:14 (NLT)

3. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COMPLAINING AND CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK

Better to be criticized by a wise person than to be praised by a fool. Ecclesiastes 7:5 (NLT)

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
Ephesians 4:29 (NIV)

Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye. Matthew 7:5 (NLT)

JESUS LOVES YOU
Jesus said: It’s not what goes into your mouth that defiles you; you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth.” Matthew 15:11 (NLT)

JESUS MAKES IT POSSIBLE FOR ME TO…

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. 12 In those days when you pray, I will listen. 13 If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. 14 I will be found by you,” says the LORD. Jeremiah 29:11-14 (NLT)

1. KNOW HE HAS MIRACULOUS PLANS FOR ME

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 (NLT)

But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2 (NASB)

For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”
6 So we can say with confidence, “The LORD is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?”
Hebrews 13:5-6 (NLT)

I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me. John 15:15 (NLT)

2. KNOW HE HAS MIRACULOUS PLANS FOR YOU

16"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17"For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. John 3:16-17 (NLT)

35Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.
36"But I said to you that you have seen Me, and yet do not believe.
37"All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.
38"For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.
39"This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day.
40"For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day." John 6:35-40 (NLT)

JESUS LOVES YOU
Jesus said: ‘He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches To him who overcomes, to him I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and a new name written on the stone which no one knows but he who receives it.' (Revelation 2:17 (NASB)

MAINTAIN HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS SEVEN RULES TO SUCESS – Part 7

When Abigail saw David, she quickly got off her donkey and bowed down before David with her face to the ground. 24 She fell at his feet and said: "My lord, let the blame be on me alone. Please let your servant speak to you; hear what your servant has to say. 1 Samuel 23-24 (NIV)

1. MAINTAINING HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS REQUIRES HIGH MAINTENANCE, ACTON AND CAREFUL ATTENTION

Abigail wasted no time. She quickly gathered 200 loaves of bread, two wineskins full of wine, five sheep that had been slaughtered, nearly a bushel of roasted grain, 100 clusters of raisins, and 200 fig cakes. She packed them on donkeys 19 and said to her servants, “Go on ahead. I will follow you shortly.” …
23 When Abigail saw David, she quickly got off her donkey and bowed low before him. 24 She fell at his feet and said, “I accept all blame in this matter, my lord. 1 Samuel 25:18-19, 23, 24 (NLT)

32 David replied to Abigail, “Praise the LORD, the God of Israel, who has sent you to meet me today! 33 Thank God for your good sense! Bless you for keeping me from murder and from carrying out vengeance with my own hands. 35 Then David accepted her present and told her, “Return home in peace. I have heard what you said. We will not kill your husband.”
1 Samuel 25:32-33, 35 (NIV)

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” Luke 23:34 (NLT)

22 Then he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, they are forgiven. If you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.” John 20:22-23 (NLT)

When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long. 4 Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Psalm 32:3-4 (NLT)

Sin pays off with death. But God's gift is eternal life given by Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23 (CEV)

2. HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS ALWAYS BEGIN WITH OURSELVES

A man who has friends must himself be friendly…
Proverbs 18:24 (NKJV)

YOU GO FIRST IN DOING GOOD

Please forgive my wrong. The LORD will certainly let your family have many kings, because you fight his battles. As long as you live, may you do nothing bad. 1 Samuel 25:28 (NCV)

Do not let evil defeat you, but defeat evil by doing good.
Romans 12:21 (NCV)

But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too. ” Mark 11:25 (NLT)

"In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can't get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God's part. Matthew 6:14-15 (TM)

JESUS LOVES YOU
Jesus said: “I came so that everyone would have life, and have it in its fullest.”
John 10:10 (CEV)

STAND BY YOUR CONVICTIONS SEVEN RULES TO SUCESS – Part 6

Then his daughter, also named Herodias, came in and performed a dance that greatly pleased Herod and his guests. “Ask me for anything you like,” the king said to the girl, “and I will give it to you.” 23 He even vowed, “I will give you whatever you ask, up to half my kingdom!” 24 She went out and asked her mother, “What should I ask for?” Her mother told her, “Ask for the head of John the Baptist!” Mark 6:22-24 (NLT)

1. DON’T GIVE INTO BEING AN APPROVAL ADDICT

Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe. Proverbs 29:25 (NIV)

Saul replied, "When I saw that the men were scattering, and that you did not come at the set time, and that the Philistines were assembling at Micmash, 12 I thought, 'Now the Philistines will come down against me at Gilgal, and I have not sought the LORD's favor.' So I felt compelled to offer the burnt offering."
13 "You acted foolishly," Samuel said. "You have not kept the command the LORD your God gave you; if you had, he would have established your kingdom over Israel for all time. 14 But now your kingdom will not endure; the LORD has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him leader of his people, because you have not kept the LORD's command."
1 Samuel 13:11-14 (NIV)

Many people did believe in him, however, including some of the Jewish leaders. But they wouldn’t admit it for fear that the Pharisees would expel them from the synagogue. 43 For they loved human praise more than the praise of God.
John 12:42 (NLT)

Five effects that the fear of rejection has on us:
1. We allow others to manipulate us.
2. We conform to peer pressure.
3. We don’t follow the truth
4. We prevent future relationships
5. We keep silent rather than share the gospel

Herodias had a grudge against John and wanted to kill him. But she could not do it 20because Herod was afraid of John and protected him. He knew that John was a good and holy man. Even though Herod was confused by what John said, [a] he was glad to listen to him. And he often did. Mark 19:20 (CEV)

2. PUT GOD IN FIRST PLACE, PUT YOURSELF & PEOPLE IN THEIR PROPER PLACE

1You, LORD, are the light that keeps me safe. I am not afraid of anyone. You protect me, and I have no fears.
Psalm 27:1 (CEV)

…For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” Hebrews 13:5b (NLT)

15Do your best to win God's approval as a worker who doesn't need to be ashamed and who teaches only the true message. 2 Peter 2.15 (CEV)

I am not trying to please people. I want to please God. Do you think I am trying to please people? If I were doing that, I would not be a servant of Christ. Galatians 1:10 (CEV)

You may brag about yourself, but the only approval that counts is the Lord's approval.
2 Corinthians 10:18 (CEV)

JESUS LOVES YOU
Jesus said: “I came so that everyone would have life, and have it in its fullest.”
John 10:10 (CEV)

CHOOSE TO FORGIVE & REFUSE TO BE OFFENDED SEVEN RULES TO SUCESS – Part 5

Her brother Absalom said to her, "Has that Amnon, your brother, been with you? Be quiet now, my sister; he is your brother. Don't take this thing to heart." And Tamar lived in her brother Absalom's house, a desolate woman. 21 When King David heard all this, he was furious. 22 Absalom never said a word to Amnon, either good or bad; he hated Amnon because he had disgraced his sister Tamar. 2 Samuel 13:20-22 (NIV)

1. WHEN YOU CHOOSE NOT TO FORGIVE YOU BECOME LIKE (OR EVEN WORSE THAN) THE ONE YOU DISPISE

21Ahithophel answered, "Some of your father's wives were left here to take care of the palace. You should have sex with them. Then everyone will find out that you have publicly disgraced your father. This will make you and your followers even more powerful." 22Absalom had a tent set up on the flat roof of the palace, and everyone watched as he went into the tent with his father's wives. 2 Samuel 16:21-22 (CEV)

32 Then the king called in the man he had forgiven and said, ‘You evil servant! I forgave you that tremendous debt because you pleaded with me. 33 Shouldn’t you have mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had mercy on you?’ 34 Then the angry king sent the man to prison to be tortured until he had paid his entire debt.
35 “That’s what my heavenly Father will do to you if you refuse to forgive your brothers and sisters from your heart.”
Matthew 18:32-35 (NLT)

Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. 10 May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today the food we need 12 and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. 13 And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.
14 “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. 15 But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins. Matthew 6:14:15 (NLT)

2. WHEN YOU CHOOSE TO FORGIVE YOU FREE YOURSELF TO BECOME LIKE THE ONE WHO SETS YOU FREE

Jesus told his disciples: Have faith in God! 23If you have faith in God and don't doubt, you can tell this mountain to get up and jump into the sea, and it will. 24Everything you ask for in prayer will be yours, if you only have faith. 25-26Whenever you stand up to pray, you must forgive what others have done to you. Then your Father in heaven will forgive your sins.
Mark 11:22:26 (CEV)

22 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: 23 “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, ‘This is the way you shall bless the children of Israel. Say to them:
24 “The LORD bless you and keep you;
25 The LORD make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
26 The LORD lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.”’
27 “So they shall put My name on the children of Israel, and I will bless them.” Numbers 6:22-27 (NKJV)

14 Do everything without complaining and arguing, 15 so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. Philippians 2:14 (NLT)

19 Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say,
“I will take revenge; I will pay them back, says the LORD.”
Romans 12:19 (NLT)

JESUS LOVES YOU
Jesus said: “I came so that everyone would have life, and have it in its fullest.”
John 10:10 (CEV)

AVOID SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS SEVEN RULES TO SUCESS -- Part 4

And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. 5They were delighted and agreed to give him money. 6He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present. Luke 22:4-6 (NIV)

1. SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS IS AN INVISIBLE, OFTEN FATAL DISEASE THAT IS USUALLY DIAGNOSED AFTER IT IS TOO LATE

Six days before the Passover celebration began, Jesus arrived in Bethany, the home of Lazarus—the man he had raised from the dead. 2 A dinner was prepared in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, and Lazarus was among those who ate with him. 3 Then Mary took a twelve-ounce jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard, and she anointed Jesus’ feet with it, wiping his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance. 4 But Judas Iscariot, the disciple who would soon betray him, said, 5 “That perfume was worth a year’s wages. It should have been sold and the money given to the poor.” 6 Not that he cared for the poor—he was a thief, and since he was in charge of the disciples’ money, he often stole some for himself. John 12:1-6 (NLT)

4And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. 5They were delighted and agreed to give him money. 6He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present. Matthew 26:14-16 (NLT)

2. CHECK YOURSELF FOR SELF-RIGHTEOUS ATTITUDES

But Paul said to him, “God will slap you, you corrupt hypocrite! What kind of judge are you to break the law yourself by ordering me struck like that?” 4 Those standing near Paul said to him, “Do you dare to insult God’s high priest?” 5 “I’m sorry, brothers. I didn’t realize he was the high priest,” Paul replied, “for the Scriptures say, ‘You must not speak evil of any of your rulers.’” Acts 23:3-5 (NLT)

3. GROUND SELF-RIGHTEOUS EMOTIONS WITH A FAITHFUL LIGHTNING ROD

4Wise words are like deep waters;
wisdom flows from the wise like a bubbling brook.
13Spouting off before listening to the facts
is both shameful and foolish.
15Intelligent people are always ready to learn.
Their ears are open for knowledge.
Proverbs 18:4,13,15 (NLT)

Just as iron sharpens iron, friends sharpen the minds
of each other. Proverbs 27:17 (CEV)

4. DEVELOP THE HEART OF A REFORMER (PROBLEM SOLVER), NOT A REBEL

Inasmuch as an excellent spirit, knowledge, understanding, interpreting dreams, solving riddles, and explaining enigmas were found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar, now let Daniel be called, and he will give the interpretation.”
Daniel 5:12 (NKJV)

29Then he touched their eyes and said, "According to your faith will it be done to you". Matthew 9:29 (NIV)

19 “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!
Deuteronomy 30:19 (NLT)

HOW TO UNLOCK THE SECRET OF BREAKTHROUGH

Part 1

1.  FAITH, THE FIRST KEY TO BREAK THROUGH
So David asked God, “Should I go out to fight the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?” The Lord replied, “Yes, go ahead. I will hand them over to you.” 14And once again David asked God what to do. “Do not attack them straight on,” God replied. “Instead, circle around behind and attack them near the poplar trees.  1 Chronicles 14:10, 14 (NLT)

“God did it!” David exclaimed. “He used me to burst through my enemies like a raging flood!” So they named that place Baal-perazim (which means “the Lord who bursts through”).
1 Chronicles 14:11 (NLT)

Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.
Romans 10:17 (NIV)

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.
Psalm 119:105 (CEV)

2.  ACTION, THE SECOND KEY TO BREAK THROUGH
My brothers, what good is it for someone to say that he has faith if his actions do not prove it?  Can that faith save him?  17So it is with faith; if it is alone and includes no actions, then it is dead. 26So then, as the body without the spirit is dead, also faith without actions is dead.  James 2:14, 17, 26 (GNB)

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."
Matthew 7:24-27 (NIV)

3. THE 15 MINUTE BREAK THROUGH
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us… Ephesians 3:20 (NKJV)

Quiet Your Mind
But I have learned to feel safe and satisfied, just like a young child on its mother's lap. Psalm 132:2 (CEV)

Focus Your Mind
Be joyful and sing as you come in to worship the LORD! 4Be thankful and praise the LORD  as you enter his temple.  Psalm 100:2-4 (CEV)

Pray Your Mind
Don't worry about anything, but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God. 7Then, because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel.  Philippians 4:6-7 (CEV)

Renew Your Mind
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.  Romans 12:2 (NIV)

TELLING PEOPLE ABOUT JESUS

Witnessing Jesus’ Way (John 4:4-42)

I.  HE HANDS HER A GLASS (Make a conversion)
Jesus began the conversation with two statements:
1.  Please give me a drink
Build a bridge to the other person by…
  • Accepting them for who they are
  • Asking them for help
2.  If you only knew… you would ask and he would
Believe that the other person wants to believe

Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
Colossians 4:6 (NIV)

II. HE FILLS IT WITH WATER (Share who Jesus is)
Jesus compares “this water” to “living water”. He compares temporary satisfaction to eternal fulfillment, eternal life

To effectively share the good news we must:
  1. Move from the known to the unknown
  2. From the felt need to the real need
  3. Help people to start asking questions
  4. Show people the truth about Jesus

III. HE TEACHES HER TO DRINK (Ask for commitment)
Jesus’ answers to her statements lead her through the process of commitment.

Her First Response: Desire for change

Jesus’ Answer:  “Call your husband:
He addresses her guilt

Her Second Response:  Let’s talk about religion

Jesus points out her guilt and she immediately wants to talk about the difference between Jewish and Samaritan religions!
  1. When we feel guilty we often attack the nearest target.
  2. It is much more comfortable to discuss religion than to face one’s sins
Jesus’ Answer:  He refuses to argue
  • Jesus does not ignore her question.
  • Jesus does not shame her for asking the question.
  • Jesus does not twist the truth to gain her sympathy.
  • Jesus answers the question in a way that brings her back to her need.
Her Third Response: Let’s talk later

Jesus’ answer: I am He!  Let’s decide now!

For God says, ‘At just the right time, I heard you.  In the day of salvation, I helped you.’  Indeed, God is ready to help you right now.  Today is the day of salvation.
2 Corinthians 6:2 (NLT)

Her Fourth Response: She believed and helped others to believe.
  1. Notice her growth … Sir, prophet, messiah, Savior of the world.
  2. They believed because of her testimony

WHAT MAKES GOD SMILE?

“For thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created!”  Revelation 4:11b (KJV)
“The Lord takes pleasure in His people.”  Psalm 149:4 (GN)

WORSHIP: Living a life pleasing to God

“Because of God's great mercy...  Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him.  This is the true worship that you should offer.”
Romans 12:1 (GN)

“Noah was a pleasure to the Lord.”  Genesis 6:8 (LB)

WE GIVE GOD PLEASURE...

1. WHEN WE LOVE HIM ABOVE EVERYTHING ELSE
"I don't want your sacrifices-- I want your love!  I don't want your offerings--I want you to know me!”  Hosea 6:6 (LB)

“Noah was a righteous man, he walked in close fellowship (relationship) with God.”  Genesis 6:9b (NLT)

“God’s unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ.  And this gave him great pleasure.”  Ephesians 1:5 (NLT)

2. WHEN WE TRUST HIM COMPLETELY
“The Lord takes pleasure in those who honor him and trust in his constant love.”  Psalm 147:11 (GN)

“By faith, Noah built a ship in the middle of dry land.  He was warned about something he couldn't see, and acted on what he was told...  His act of faith drew a sharp line between the evil of the unbelieving world and the rightness of the believing world.  As a result, Noah became intimate with God.”
Hebrews 11:7 (TM)

God: “I want you to trust me in your times of trouble, so I can rescue you and you can give me glory.”
Psalm 50:14 (LB)

3. WHEN WE OBEY HIM WHOLEHEARTEDLY
“We please God by what we do and not only by what we believe.” James 2:24 (CEV)

“Noah obeyed and built a boat...” Hebrews 11:7 (CEV)

“Noah did everything exactly as God commanded him.”  Genesis 6:22 (NLT)

“Just tell me what to do and I will do it, Lord.  As long as I live I'll wholeheartedly obey.”  Psalm 119:33 (LB)
“Those who live by their natural inclinations can never be pleasing to God.”  Romans 8:8 (NJB)

4. WHEN WE FULFILL HIS PURPOSES
“Then God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth!”
Genesis 9:1 (KJV)

“The steps of the godly are directed by the Lord.  He delights in every detail of their lives.” Psalm 37:23 (NLT)

“God takes particular pleasure in acts of worship -a different kind of "sacrifice"—that take place in kitchen and workplace and on the streets.”  Hebrews 13:16b (TM)

“The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who are wise, who want to please God.”
Psalm 14:2 (LB)

“Everything that goes into a life of pleasing God has been miraculously given to us by getting to know, personally and intimately, the One who invited us to God.”
2 Peter 1:3 (TM)

THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A SERVANT LEADER

Give yourselves completely to God – every part of you – for you want to be tools in the hands of God, to be used for His good purposes.  Romans   6:13 (LB)

1. YOU MUST KNOW WHO YOU ARE

Jesus knew that He had come from God…  He also knew that the Father had given Him complete power.  So He got up, wrapped a towel around His waist… and began washing His disciples' feet.  John 13:3-5 (CEV)

Jesus: “Your approval or disapproval means nothing to Me.”
John 5:41 (NLT)

2. YOU MUST ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY

The lazy person is full of excuses.  Proverbs 22:13 (TLB)

Don't use your freedom as an excuse to do anything you want.  Use it as an opportunity to serve each other with love.
Galatians   5:13 (CEV)

Some died by stoning, some were sawed in half, and others were killed with the sword. Some went about wearing skins of sheep and goats, destitute and oppressed and mistreated
Hebrews 11:37(NLT)

3.  YOU MUST SET PRIORITIES

We should choose to follow what is right.  But first we must define what is good.  Job 34:4 (LB)

Moses regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.  Hebrews 11:26 (NIV)

Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the priceless gain of knowing Christ Jesus.  Philippians 3:8 (LB)

4.  YOU MUST FOCUS ON ETERNITY

Set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits… Let heaven fill your thoughts.  Do not think only about things down here on earth.  Colossians 3:1-2 (NLT)

It was by faith that Moses left the land of Egypt.  He was not afraid of the king.  He kept right on going because he kept his eyes on the one who is invisible.  Hebrews 11:27 (NLT)

Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we're in.  Study how He did it.  Because He never lost sight of where He was headed—that exhilarating finish with God—He could put up with anything along the way: cross, shame, whatever. Hebrews 12:2 (TM)

YOU GET TO LIVE LIFE ONCE ONLY

“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 (NLT)

Fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.  Romans 12:1-2 (TM)

“The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together! ’ Matthew 25:21 (NLT)

1. YOU HAVE BEEN CHOSEN BUY JESUS – GOD IN PERSON

But you are God's chosen and special people. You are a group of royal priests and a holy nation. God has brought you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Now you must tell all the wonderful things that he has done. The Scriptures say,
10"Once you were nobody. Now you are God's people. At one time no one had pity on you. Now God has treated you with kindness. 1 Peter 2:9-10 (CEV)

2. GOD’S ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY IS OFFERED NOW!

So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. 16Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. 17Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.  Ephesians 5:15-17 (NLT)

Peter saw his opportunity and addressed the crowd.
Acts 3:12 (NLT)

The Master said, "Martha, dear Martha, you're fussing far too much and getting yourself worked up over nothing. One thing only is essential, and Mary has chosen it—it's the main course, and won't be taken from her."  Luke 10:41-42 (TM)

3. THE DOOR OF OPPORTUNITY WILL SOON CLOSE

Remember him before the door to life’s opportunities is closed and the sound of work fades. Now you rise at the first chirping of the birds, but then all their sounds will grow faint.
Ecclesiastes 12:4 (NLT)

“But while they were gone to buy oil, the bridegroom came. Then those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was locked. 13“So you, too, must keep watch! For you do not know the day or hour of my return.  Matthew 25:10-13 (NLT)

4. DON’T BE THE ONE THAT IS LEFT BEHIND

Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved. They will come and go freely and will find good pastures. 10The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
John 10:9-10 (NLT)

"For many are invited, but few are chosen."
Matthew 22:14 (CEV)

“Two men will be working together in the field; one will be taken, the other left. Matthew 24:40 (NLT)

Serve the Lord with all your heart because
JESUS LOVES YOU!

HOW TO TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR FEAR

I tell you for certain that if you have faith in me, you will do the same things that I am doing. You will do even greater things, now that I am going back to the Father. John 14: 12 (CEV)

1. WHERE THERE IS FAITH IN JESUS THERE CANNOT BE FEAR
And God has given us his Spirit as proof that we live in him and he in us. 14Furthermore, we have seen with our own eyes and now testify that the Father sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15All who confess that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God. 16We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love.
God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. 17And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world.
18Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.

1 John 4:13-18 (NLT)

You, LORD, are the light that keeps me safe. I am not afraid of anyone. You protect me, and I have no fears.
Psalm 27:1 (NLT)

2. JESUS PROMISES TO BE WITH YOU NOW AND FOREVERMORE
Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”
Hebrews 13:5 (NLT) also Deuteronomy 31:6
Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20 (NLT)

3. GOD DOES NOT GIVE US THE SPIRIT OF FEAR. FEAR
COMES FROM SATAN
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT)

So I confessed my sins and told them all to you. I said, "I'll tell the LORD each one of my sins." Then you forgave me and took away my guilt. Psalm 32:5 (CEV)
All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. John 3:20 (NLT)

Satan's Method for using Fear:
He uses our past sins
He uses the possibilities of the future
He uses the potential of failure
He uses the certainty of criticism

4. RECOGNIZE THAT BECAUSE OF JESUS, YOU HAVE THE POWER TO TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR FEARS
I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13 (NLT)
Let us be bold, then, and say, “The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?” Hebrews 13:6 (GN)

HOW TO CONTROL OF YOUR EMOTIONS or YOUR FEELINGS DON’T HAVE TO CONTROL YOU

It is better to be slow-tempered than famous, it is better to have self-control than to control an army. Proverbs 16:32 (LB)

For with God nothing is ever impossible and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfillment. Luke 1:37 (AB)

1. CONTROLLING YOUR EMOTIONS IS PART OF GOD’S PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE

How truly I love you! We're the best of friends, and I pray for good fortune in everything you do, and for your good health—that your everyday affairs prosper, as well as your soul!
3 John 2 (TM)

Your soul is actually made up of three parts.
Your mind
Your will
Your emotions

2. JESUS SHOWS US HOW TO CONTROL OUR EMOTIONS

Now that we know what we have—Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God—let's not let it slip through our fingers. We don't have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He's been through weakness and testing, experienced it all—all but the sin. So let's walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.
Hebrews 4:15 (TM)

They went to the olive grove called Gethsemane, and Jesus said, "Sit here while I go and pray." He took Peter, James, and John with Him, and He became deeply troubled and distressed. He told them, "My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death.."
Mark 14:32-34 (NLT)

3. JESUS SOUGHT THE FATHER IN PRAYER

He went on a little farther and fell to the ground. He prayed that, if it were possible, the awful hour awaiting Him might pass Him by. "Abba, Father," He cried out, "everything is possible for You. Please take this cup of suffering away from Me. Yet I want Your will to be done, not Mine."
Mark 14:35-36 (NLT)

4. RECOGNIZE THAT YOUR EMOTIONS ARE BEING MANIPULATED BY SATAN
Your father is the devil, and you do exactly what he wants. He has always been a murderer and a liar. There is nothing truthful about him. He speaks on his own, and everything he says is a lie. Not only is he a liar himself, but he is also the father of all lies. John 8:41 (CEV)

Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you. Luke 10:19 (NLT)

Yes, that old snake and his angels were thrown out of heaven! That snake, who fools everyone on earth, is known as the devil and Satan. Revelation 12:9 (CEV)

In fact, God treats us with even greater kindness, just as the Scriptures say, "God opposes everyone who is proud, but he is kind to everyone who is humble." 7Surrender to God! Resist the devil, and he will run from you. 8Come near to God, and he will come near to you. Clean up your lives, you sinners. Purify your hearts, you people who can't make up your mind.
James 4:6-8 (CEV)

HOW TO RENEW YOUR PASSION FOR JESUS

He is a God who is passionate about His relationship with you. Exodus 34:14 (NLT).

Jesus said, "'Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.' This is the most important, the first on any list. Matthew 22:37-40 (TM)

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Colossians 3:23 (NLT)

Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

Romans 12:2 (TM)

Jesus once again addressed them: "I am the world's Light. No one who follows me stumbles around in the darkness. I provide plenty of light to live in."  John 8:12 (TM)

THE SEVEN PASSION KILLERS

1.  AN UNBALANCED SCHEDULE
It is senseless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, fearing you will starve to death; for God wants his loved ones to get their proper rest. Psalm 127:2 (TLB)

Faith that doesn’t show itself by good works is no faith at all—it is dead and useless. James 2:17 (TLB)

2.  AN UNUSED TALENT

God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. 1 Peter 4:10 (NLT)

Each of you has been blessed with one of God's many wonderful gifts to be used in the service of others. So use your gift well.  1 Peter 4:10 (CEV)

3.  AN UNCONFESSED SIN

My guilt overwhelms me— it is a burden too heavy to bear.

5My wounds fester and stink because of my foolish sins.
Psalm 38:4-5 (NLT)

if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

1 John 1:9 (NLT)

4.  AN UNRESOLVED CONFLICT

Envy and jealousy will kill a stupid fool.  Job 5:2 (CEV)

"You are only hurting yourself with your anger." Job 18:4 (GN)

5.  AN UNSUPPORTED LIFESTYLE

Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. 10If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (NLT)

6. AN UNCLEAR PURPOSE

"I have labored to no purpose; I have spent my strength in vain and for nothing. Isaiah 4:6 (NIV)

7.  AN UNDERNOURISHED SPIRIT

I honor and love your commands.  I meditate on your decrees.

Psalm 119:48 (NLT)

I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.  Psalm 119:11 (NLT)

HOW TO PREPARE FOR JESUS RETURN

“Look, I will come as unexpectedly as a thief! Blessed are all who are watching for me, who keep their clothing ready so they will not have to walk around naked and ashamed.”

Revelation 16:15 (NLT)

For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night. 3When people are saying, “Everything is peaceful and secure,” then disaster will fall on them as suddenly as a pregnant woman’s labor pains begin. And there will be no escape. 4But you aren’t in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won’t be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief. 1 Thessalonians 5:2-4 (NLT)

10“But while they were gone to buy oil, the bridegroom came. Then those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was locked. 11Later, when the other five bridesmaids returned, they stood outside, calling, ‘Lord! Lord! Open the door for us!’ Matthew 25:10-11 (NLT)

1.  THE TIME TO PREPARE IS NOW!

“Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled.” Hebrews 3:15 (NLT)

2.  LIVE AS A SERVANT OF JESUS

“Yes,” Jesus replied, “and I assure you that everyone who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or property, for my sake and for the Good News, 30will receive now in return a hundred times as many houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and property—along with persecution. And in the world to come that person will have eternal life.

 Mark 10:29-30 (NLT)

And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.  Deuteronomy 6:5 (NLT)

One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. 19Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” 20And they left their nets at once and followed him.  Matthew 4:18-20 (NLT)

3.  LIVE YOUR LIFE WITH FAITH AND HUMILITY

“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities. Luke 16:10 (NLT)

When a servant comes in from plowing or taking care of sheep, does his master say, ‘Come in and eat with me’? 8No, he says, ‘Prepare my meal, put on your apron, and serve me while I eat. Then you can eat later.’ 9And does the master thank the servant for doing what he was told to do? Of course not. 10In the same way, when you obey me (Jesus) you should say, ‘We are unworthy servants who have simply done our duty.’” Luke 17:7-10 (NLT)

4.  LIVE YOUR LIFE WITHOUT PRACTICING SIN

Jesus met the man in the temple and told him, "You are now well. But don't sin anymore or something worse might happen to you."  John 5:14 (CEV)

So an elder must be a man whose life is above reproach. He must be faithful to his wife. He must exercise self-control, live wisely, and have a good reputation. He must enjoy having guests in his home, and he must be able to teach.  1Timothy 3:2 (NLT)

12And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God, 13while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed. 14He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds. Titus 12-14 (CEV)

THE IMPORTANCE OF MEMBERSHIP IN YOUR CHURCH

The Three Parts of the Christian Life

1.  Believing

BELIEVE on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved.

Acts 16:31 (LB)

2.  Belonging

You are a member of God’s very own family… and you BELONG in God’s household with every other Christian!  Ephesians 2:19 (LB)

3.  Becoming

For from the very beginning God decided that those who came to him-and all along he knew who would-should become like his Son, so that his Son would be the First, with many brothers.  Romans 8:29 (LB)

Benefits to Membership

1.  IT IDENTIFIES ME AS A GENUINE BELIEVER

You Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens with everyone else who belongs to the family of God. Ephesians 2:19 (CEV)

The body we're talking about is Christ's body of chosen people. Each of us finds our meaning and function as a part of his body. Romans 12:5 (TM)

2.  IT PROVIDES ME A SPIRITUAL FAMILY TO SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGE ME

Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. 2Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. Galatians 6:1-2 (TLB)

Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. 25And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.  Hebrews 10:24-25 (NLT)

3.  IT GIVES ME A PLACE TO DISCOVER AND USE MY SPIRITUAL GIFTS IN MINSITRY

A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. 1 Corinthians 12:7 (NLT) read 4-27

4.  IT PLACES ME UNDER THE SPIRITUAL PROTECTION OF GODLY LEADERS

Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit. Hebrews 13:17 (TLB)

Look after yourselves and everyone the Holy Spirit has placed in your care. Be like shepherds to God's church. It is the flock that he bought with the blood of his own Son. 29I know that after I am gone, others will come like fierce wolves to attack you.

Acts 20:28-29 (CEV)

5.  IT GIVES ME THE ACCOUNTABILITY I NEED TO GROW

Out of respect for Christ, be courteously reverent to one another. Ephesians 5:21

Membership is a step of spiritual growth rather than as an organizational ritual.
